As
a contemporary artist, I work with the formal and abstract in my
ceramic paintings. I am very curious about my world. Words and mathematics
intrigue me, as do visual textures and patterns. I make art that
speaks not about these idea elements that initially piqued my curiosity,
or about the sources of my inspiration, but more about my interpretation
of them: reduced, distilled and abstracted, finally becoming a visual
essence of my original thought processes.
Like the
Action Painters of the Abstract Expressionist movement my orientation
is in process.
My process, however, leaves the concerns of the Action Painters
almost as soon as they are identified. The process that I am referring
to
is in my mind. It's the wandering down the path of an idea that
I embrace. I like the term essence as it relates to the simplicity
of expression. This process path leads me away from literalness
toward
complete abstraction. From it comes an image that is now its
own unique, visual statement.
